Phillip Phillips Day

I couldn't let the day go by without mentioning Phillip Phillips.  If you have been keeping up with American Idol, you have heard this name. It is kinda hard to not keep up with AI around here since Phillip is from our area!!  If you haven't heard, Phillip has made it to the top three.  He came home this weekend and I cannot express the excitement in the air in the Albany/Leesburg area.  He flew in last night and there was a parade and concert today.  I don't know Phillip personally, but I have to say I am so proud of him and how he is representing our area.  It's been so much fun to see such an amazing talent emerge from our area!

I have been really excited lately to see all the wonderful things coming from our city.  From athletes, musicians, artists and even movies being filmed here, it's been awesome to see our city/area shine! I know Albany has it's problems. What city doesn't? But, I choose to look at all the great things and be thankful for all this city has to offer.  I believe this city is called to be a city of unity and excellence, a city that is a light! And to me, it looks like we're headed in that direction! God loves this city and I am not ashamed to say I love Albany and am proud to be a part of it!

Don't forget to vote for Phillip Phillips in the American Idol finals this week!!!

Catch-Up

Ok, I know it has been a while since I posted last.  It has been pretty busy around here! We are in the process of buying a house!!!! We have been working hard the last few weeks trying to get everything in order. It has been stressful to say the least, but we are excited and are hoping to close in the next few weeks.  Since it has been so long since my last post I thought I would play catch-up today. So, here are some things that have happened since my last post.

I now have a store on Etsy! If you would like to buy some of my prints, I have a few of them for sale on Etsy.  Click here to check it out.

Jon and I also just celebrated our 10th anniversary!  I can't believe it's been 10 years!!! Wow! We wanted to go somewhere for our anniversary, but since we are buying a house we decided to save money and vacation time and go somewhere close by.  So, we decided on a weekend at Disney World!!! We had a blast! (Pictures coming soon!)

I also had a birthday a few weeks ago. It was such a beautiful day.  We decided since the sky was so blue and the temperature cool, to go on a picnic and hiking at Providence Canyon!! It was so nice! Such a wonderful day!!!

These Are A Few of My Favorite Blogs

I thought I would just share with you some of my favorite blogs.

Restless Oasis  This is my cousins blog and it is awesome.  She has such a great decorating and fashion sense.  It's a blog with some of everything from decorating and fashion to DIY projects and recipes and it will give you some really great ideas.

The Small Things Blog  If you are looking for a great hair blog, this is it.  She has such cute hair ideas with tutorials on how to do them all.  I would highly recommend checking it out.

Trash to Couture  I love this blog.  She takes clothes that you would normally throw out and turns them into something beautiful.  I don't sew, but this blog makes me wish I did and is motivation for me to start.

Heather Armstrong Photography  This is one of my very favorite photographers.  Her work is beautiful.  The way she captures people is amazing.

Deena Safari  This blog is definitely a great and fun read. Deena is an excellent writer.  This is a blog that both Jon and I really enjoy!!

Beach Day

It has been a while since I posted.  I took a small break, but now I am back.

There are four seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall.  I am the type of person that loves to enjoy each season.  Unfortunately, this year we did not get a winter.  I don't mean it was a short winter so it felt like no winter. I mean we seriously did not get a winter this year.  Thanksgiving came and it wasn't cold.  Then Christmas came around and, again, it wasn't cold.  New Year's Eve, January and February all went by and I kept looking for winter and it never came.  I love winter.  Living in the south, it's the one time of year I get a break from the suffocating humidity. I have to say I have been very disappointed. So, after a brief time of mourning, I decided it was time to just cut my losses and embrace spring!

This past weekend we decided to take a day trip to the beach with the dogs.  It was a perfect day and so relaxing.  This was the first time we had ever taken the dogs to the beach so we weren't sure what to expect.  Cassie is a pit bull, so we thought we would really have to keep an eye on her.  It wasn't too crowded so we were able to have the dogs off the leash for the most part.  Surprisingly, Molly, the black lab is the one we had to keep on the leash.  She would bark and lunge at every dog that came near us. Meanwhile, Cassie just sat there not bothered a bit by any person or dog and even made a friend.  It was such a fun time and we are planning a trip back very soon.

Scarf Hanger

As you can see, my scarves were a mess.  I just had them hanging on nails.  I could never get them to stay up and most of them ended up falling to the floor.  So, after making my DIY earring holder, I decided to figure out a solution for my scarves.

I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a piece of unfinished wood.  I painted it black. After letting it dry, I painted over it with white.
Next, I used sandpaper to give it a distressed/antique look.

Then, it was time to add the knobs and hooks and hang it on the wall.

Finally, I have a place to hang my scarves.  It will be so nice not having scarves on the floor anymore. I love using fun, creative ways to help stay organized.

DIY Earring Holder

This is what my earrings looked like.  All bunched up in a pile on my dresser.  It was driving me crazy so I started looking around on pinterest (I know you are probably getting tired of hearing the word pinterest everywhere you turn, but you really can find some great ideas on there) for a solution.  Here is what I ended up with.

I got a frame from Hobby Lobby.  I LOVE Hobby Lobby!!! Especially when I get things 50% off! I took out the glass and the back.  I added lace using glue.

I hung it on the wall and added the earrings. It was so fast and simple and a great way to organize my earrings.  I love it because the earrings add color to it.  It's like an art piece that's also functional.

The Greatness of Our God

I love nature! Not in a weird we have to save the planet kind of way, but in a constant awe of God kinda way.  I was going through pictures of places I've been for my world map/travel wall (pictures coming soon) and when I started looking at the nature ones I was reminded of how in awe of God I was when I was there.  I don't know if everyone is like this, but I really feel His presence when I'm outside looking at His creation. I remember the first time I went to the Grand Canyon. We got there at sunset and I was having to fight back the tears! There's something about the beauty and majesty of creation that puts things in perspective and reminds me how awesome God really is! I love getting the window seat when we fly! I just sit there and stare at the clouds. God always speaks to me as I enjoy the beauty of creation.  And there's nothing like an early morning flight and getting to watch the sunrise from up in the clouds!!! I must drive Jon crazy getting him to look every five minutes while he's trying to read.  Here are pictures of a few of the places we have been where I felt an overwhelming sense of His presence.
